Anyone can go to the movies, a restaurant or a friend's house for dinner. And all of those options are great, but local, live-theatre is suffering for it. Local entertainers are being forced to move to the city where shows can be crowded and stifling. Not to mention being guided like cattle through lines and then ultimately sitting in a seat that many times is far back and nowhere near the stage. That doesn't really happen in the Suburbs. Even our large theatres are pretty intimate (ie the Bucks County Playhouse and The Music Mountain Theatre are 250 or less capacity.) Shows are typically much more intimate in the suburbs. And that's not to say that there's anything wrong with stadium or arena concerts now and then. But, a great, intimate show can be just as transformative as a big budget stadium show.
The public in general needs to make a conscious decision to support local, live artists, no matter what their medium. As an entertainer in the Pennsylvania, New York and Philadelphia tri-state area, I know firsthand that it's not hard to find an entertaining show in either of the big cities that I live between. But some of the best entertainment available to the public happens right here in the suburbs. I have lived and worked in New Hope for over 25 years and there is a booming entertainment industry here. But the majority of the guests seeing those shows are tourists!
If you want to support local talent in the New Hope area or anywhere in the world for that matter. Look on sites like VisitNewHope.org or Eventbrite.com and find something that interests you. Purchase tickets in advance and if by some chance you can't make it to the show, give the tickets to someone else. You'll be a hero
